Thursday, May 17th, starting at 11:00, at Journey Pub, George Enescu Street no. 25, the Opening Conference of the "Alternative Culture" Project will be held. The project was selected for funding under the POCA 2014-2020, co-funded by the European Union from the European Social Fund.

The general objective of the project proposed by the Flower Power Cultural Association is to strengthen the capacity of NGOs and relevant cultural actors to initiate, promote, implement and monitor public policies adapted to the current Romanian cultural context in order to improve and synchronize it with the European and international cultural environment. Although the idea of an the Status of the Artist Act in Romania is not new, so far there are several attempts to create a documents or a series of regulations under that name, the "Alternative Culture" Project has as its objectives not only the realization of an alternative public policy that will lead to improve the artist's status and to synchronize it with the best practices in the cultural field in European countries, but also proposes a training component

The training activities proposed by the project are designed to help NGO representatives and artists from different cultural areas discover and learn ways and means to support their involvement, participation and influence through democratic mechanisms to the decisions that have a great impact on their life and activity. Another important element the project proposes is a perception survey that will collect specific informations about the impact and the effects of cultural legislation on artists involved in various cultural sub-domains.

The project proposes, as a working method, an on-line questionnaire designed to gather information that will lead to a real image of the most urgent needs of the independent cultural field and the problems faced by artists. On the other hand, the project proposes a series of work-shops with artists from specific cultural areas that will take place in many important cultural centers in Romania. During the work-shops they will be to discuss the most important problems that have to be solved, that will be combined in some reports. The activities will promote equal opportunities and non-discrimination. The project will provide artists, throughout the project and beyond, with all the information and resources prepared and conducted within it, through a dedicated website that can be accessed at the link www.statutulartistului.ro The communication channels of the project will also take place through social networds, press releases and radio and TV promotions, constantly providing important details of each stage and the progress of activities.

The project aims at providing modern communication methods that will open up possibilities both for direct and on-line communication between artists and cultural operators in all areas of the country, aiming to create possibilities for cohesion and circulation of information in order to achieve the proposed objectives.

The Agenda of the Opening Conference of the "Alternative Culture" Project includes a detailed presentation of the objectives and results aimed by the project, the presentation of the team that will ensure the management and coordination of the project activities and the distribution of informative materials. The conference will present both the concept behind the project and the various resources prepared for its implementation. Representatives of local and central authorities, representatives of NGOs in the cultural area, artists and representatives of creative unions from all cultural fields were invited to the conference.

Among the officials who will honor the opening conference of the project are the Director of the POCA Managing Authority-Mihaela Dobroescu and Mihaela Nicolae-Superior Advisor to the General Directorate for European Programs-Administrative Capacity-Managing Authority for the Operational Programme Administrative Capacity.

The members of the management team hope this new initiative to improve the Romanian Artist Statute, which enjoys for the first time the support of the European Union and the Romanian Government, by selecting the project for financing under the POCA 2014-2020, co-funded by the European Union from the Fund Social Europe, enjoy the receptiveness and the broadest possible involvement of artists and cultural operators. The fact that the project begins on Anniversary Year - the Centenary of the Great Union Year - can be considered a sign for artists to understand that things can not change without their union, involvement and participation in the formulation of the public policies that influences their existence.
